3 Step Goal Setting Process
According to a study conducted by the University of Scranton, 92% of people will fail at the goals they set for themselves. While there are so many reasons that goals fail, the #1 reason is because the people who set them do not have a plan in place to achieve them. By encouraging them to create a simple plan, I ensure my clients and team members stay within the 8% of people who do achieve their goals The plan gives you a blueprint to work off of, eliminating paralysis by analysis, which keeps you moving forward.
Below is the goal plan I use for myself, my clients, and my team members.
Your goal is the WHAT. What are you looking to achieve? When setting this, make sure your goal is S.M.A.R.T -specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely.
Increase my company’s LinkedIn followers by 500 people by June.
Produce three marketing/email campaigns targeted toward…by…
Drive 100,000 visitors to my website by year end.
Your strategy is the HOW. How will you achieve your goal? Define 3-5 specific ways you intend on achieving that goal.
Create a referral traffic partnership.
Create a TikTok campaign.
Conduct a giveaway once visitors get to the site.
Your tactics are a list of actions you will take to achieve your strategies. If you’re sensing a theme here, you’re thinking correctly. Remember to be specific in defining what these tactics are going to look like.
Develop 30 days of TikTok content.
Create and post one video a day.
Research partner blogs with lookalike readers.
Develop a list of topics I can write about on partner sites.
Create an assessment that visitors can download once they are on the site.
We all know the feeling of failing to accomplish a goal we set, whether big or small. And while we may beat ourselves up over not meeting said goal (I’ve been there), it can actually be quite simple to set yourself up for success. As the saying goes “a goal without a plan is a wish.” Follow this 3-step plan, and you will be sure to be in the 8% of elites who accomplish their goals.
